Aerobatic Rating (FCL.800) Training on an Extra 300L

Who this course is for

The EASA aerobatic rating (Part-FCL, FCL.800) allows you to fly aerobatic manoeuvres as pilot in command. It is a one-off rating: once entered in your licence it does not expire and needs no revalidation. Pilots typically come to us for one of three reasons. They want to learn aerobatic manoeuvres with an instructor, they want to compete, or they want the airmanship that comes from knowing exactly how an aeroplane behaves outside normal attitudes.

Prerequisites

• Valid PPL(A) licence or higher.
• 40 hours PIC after licence issue under our school admission policy. The current FCL.800 legal minimum is 30 hours PIC on aeroplanes or TMG.
• Valid aeromedical certificate.
• Weight up to 110 kg and height up to approximately 195 cm, within aircraft and parachute limits.

Licences issued by any EASA member state are accepted. If you hold a non-EASA licence, contact us first. The path to a rating entry differs and we will explain the requirements for your licence.

Ground school (approx. 5 hours)

• Aerodynamics of aerobatic flight: high angles of attack, stall, autorotation.
• Aircraft limitations: load envelope, manoeuvring speeds, mass and balance in aerobatics.
• Human factors: positive and negative G, G-LOC, spatial disorientation, motion sickness.
• Figures: structure of a manoeuvre, correctness criteria, Aresti notation, building a sequence.
• Emergency procedures: recovery from unusual attitudes, upright and inverted spins, parachute use.
• Regulations: conditions for aerobatic flight, airspace, minimum altitudes, commander duties.

Ground school ends with a theoretical knowledge test.

Flight training: the figures

A minimum of 5 flight hours is required. We deliver it across 16–20 flights, each with a briefing and a debriefing. Flight length and the pace of training are adjusted as you practise holding a line under G. Manoeuvres covered:

• Steep turns, flight at critical angles of attack, stall and recovery.
• Upright and inverted spins: recognising the direction of autorotation and recovering.
• Loop and inverted loop.
• Aileron roll and flick roll.
• Immelmann turn and split-S.
• Stall turn (hammerhead).
• Inverted flight and transitions to inverted flight.
• Linking figures into a sequence and holding the aerobatic box.

The list above is the scope. The full training programme document, with exercises broken down per flight, operating limits and assessment criteria, is provided to candidates on request.

Course at a glance

Completion

• Final check including a solo demonstration of an aerobatic sequence, flown within the DTO and included in the course price.
• Certificate of course completion issued by the DTO.
• Entry of the FCL.800 rating into your licence by the competent authority (in Poland, the Civil Aviation Authority, ULC).
• The rating has no expiry date.

Your instructor

Maciej Kulaszewski is FAI Intermediate World Champion 2022, Polish National Champion 2026 in the Advanced class and winner of the 2026 Polish Cup, both titles flown on the same SP-EKS you will train on. Multiple Polish champion, five-time UK champion and German champion, FI(A), 4,000+ hours total with 3,000+ on Extra aircraft. His students have taken the Polish Intermediate championship in 2026 and 2025, and the UK Intermediate championship in 2022.
