Things to Do Near Warsaw
The flight takes about ninety minutes including briefing, and the drive from Warsaw is another ninety each way. Most people turn that into a half day and go home. The area rewards staying a little longer.
At the airfield
Radom-Piastów (EPRP) is a working airfield rather than a visitor attraction, but there is a bar, free parking, and something happening on the apron most days of the season. Spectators are welcome at no charge, and the aerobatic box sits next to the field, so anybody not flying still sees the whole sequence.
Radom itself
Fifteen minutes from the airfield. The old town square has been restored, there is a good open-air museum of rural architecture on the edge of the city, and the aviation connection runs deep here: the city hosted Poland's largest airshow for years and the aviation industry has been part of it for a century.
Between Radom and Warsaw
- Kozienice forest, good walking and cycling, easy detour off the S7.
- Warka, with the Kazimierz Pulaski museum, which connects neatly to the American Revolution and to the badge on our aeroplane.
Further out, if you have a full day
Kazimierz Dolny, about 90 minutes east, is the prettiest small town in this part of Poland and the standard weekend destination for anybody who lives in Warsaw. Sandomierz, a similar distance south, has an old town most visitors are surprised by.
- Czarnolas, the home of the Renaissance poet Jan Kochanowski, with a museum in the manor house. Quiet, and central to Polish literature in a way hard to overstate.
- Chlewiska, a preserved nineteenth-century ironworks, unusual and underrated.
Czarnolas lies east of the airfield and Chlewiska south-west of it, each 35 to 40 km away as the crow flies. They make separate trips rather than stops on the way to Warsaw.
Eating
The Friends & Family package includes a meal at the airfield. For other plans, check restaurant opening hours and arrange food around the confirmed flight schedule.
Building the day
Confirm your flight slot before planning other visits. Weather may change the schedule at any time of day, so leave room for adjustments and the return journey.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Radom-Piastów airfield from Warsaw?
About 100 km, roughly 90 minutes by road on the S7, with free parking on site. By train, travel to Radom Glowny and take a 15-minute taxi.
Is there anything to do near the airfield?
Radom itself is fifteen minutes away with a restored old town and an open-air museum. Warka and the Kozienice forest are short detours between Radom and Warsaw. Czarnolas (east of the airfield) and Chlewiska (south-west) are separate trips, each 35 to 40 km away.
What time of day should I book the flight?
Mornings are usually smoother in summer, before thermals build, and they leave the afternoon free. Conditions can change in either direction during the day, so a morning booking does not guarantee smooth air.
Can people come and watch without flying?
Yes, free of charge. The aerobatic box is next to the airfield so spectators see the full sequence.
